Xiaomi sets new world records in fast charging with the new “HyperCharge”

Committed to their philosophy of Innovation, Xiaomi is redefining the whole charging experience with new records on wired and wireless charging speeds. Xiaomi tweeted on their official Twitter account yesterday, asking the users “Any guesses what the new record will be?” with their iconic hashtag #InnovationForEveryone. And they hinted a #XiaomiHyperCharge with it.

A short yet catchy demo video was posted a few hours back today, with proof of the almost unbelievable charging speeds with a Mi 11 Pro Custom Build handset.

The video shows the first-ever 200W wired charging on a 4000mAh battery, and it achieves 10% charge in 44 seconds, 50% in 3 minutess and charges to a 100% in just 8 minutes. It also demonstrates their first 120W wireless charging on the same 4000mAh battery, with 10% charge in 1 minute, 50% charge in 7 minutes and completes a 100% in 15 minutes.

There is no official word on when the new HyperCharge charging technology will be available on a smartphone. But, since it has been unveiled officially, Xiaomi may soon launch a commercial phone that supports it too. If so it would propel Xiaomi to the top of the charts when it comes to fast charging standards.

Are Charging Speeds That Big of a deal though?

Charging speeds are a defining factor when it comes to sales, mostly in the Asian market. Currently, the maximum supported charge speeds for major smartphones brands which are already in the market are; Apple 20W, Samsung 45W, Google 18W, OnePlus 65W, Huawei 55W, Xiaomi 120W, Oppo 65W and Vivo 120W.

The Vivo iQOO 7 holds the title of the fastest charging phone in the world so far in 2021. The phone features 120W fast charging speeds and its 4,000mAh battery recharges fully from 0 to 100% in just about 18 minutes. The Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra is the closest runner-up.

Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra was announced In August 2020 by Xiaomi as its first phone with a 120W fast charging solution. The Mi 10 Ultra that came with a 4,500mAh batter and could fully charge in just 23 minutes. This new HyperCharge technology is a huge leap from where they were.

Out of the brands sold in Western countries, OnePlus phones support the fastest charging. The OnePlus 9 Pro with its 65W Warp Charge tech takes 30 minutes for a full charge of the 4,500mAh battery inside it.

In comparison, a Galaxy S21 Ultra takes around 1 hour and 5 minutes for a full charge, while Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max takes nearly 1 hour and 40 minutes for a full charge, way behind those other brands out of China.

We look forward to what Xiaomi does next!
