Google will work to run its activities solely on renewable power. It also reported that it has acquired ample carbon offsets at present to effectively cancel all the planet-heating carbon dioxide emissions that the company launched since it was founded in 1998.
Since 2007, Google has been carbon impartial every year, indicating that by investing in renewable energy initiatives or necessary measures that draw carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and into storage, it offsets the emissions it generates from the burning of fossil fuels. But depending on offsets doesn’t really reconcile the business away from fossil fuels. In 2018 alone, Google launched 4.9 million metric tons of greenhouse gases, around the number that could be generated by more than 1 million commercial vehicles.
The latest declaration from Google comes as California, which operates at the headquarters of Google, continues to burn and choke on the smoke from blazes made more destructive by climate change. “Google CEO Sundar Pichai said in a video currently published, “We have until 2030 to map a sustainable cause for our planet or face the worst effects of climate change. “At present, we are still suffering these impacts, from historic wildfires in the US to catastrophic floods in many parts of the globe.”
